Sitting in the Dark (Insights)

still in Budapest
Before reading these insights, I encourage you to work through the Bible Study Sitting in the Dark.

Bible Study
The following verses talk about the Light of Christ and His Word.
What attributes of light help us better understand Christ and His purposes in our lives?

Last year I wrote a devotion about some of these attributes. It's called The Rising Son. The analogy of light is so rich with meaning, and my devotion only covers certain aspects, so I'd love to hear what insights you had as you read these passages. Please come on to the Bite Size site and leave them in a comment so others can benefit.
In what practical ways do you recognize Christ's Light in your life?
Again, there are so many aspects, and I'd love to hear yours. Here are a few of mine:
John 8:12: Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."

Imagine being on a dark trail and the person in front of you glowed, lighting your path. This is what Christ does for us as we venture through the dark trials and trails of life.

John 1:1-5:  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

I love this passage that opens the book of John. It tells us so many things about the character of Christ. These five verses explain that Christ is a member of the Trinity, He existed from the beginning, He is the Word--the Message of God, He gives life and light. And the light of Christ cannot be put out even by all the darkness of mankind and Satan. Nothing can even make it flicker.

Psalm 119:105: Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

I am so overwhelmed at times by the fact that God has given us His Word to show us His plan, to show us our story and His-story, to teach us how to live. How lost we would be without the light of God's Word. We would be left to our own dark sin nature to decide what is right and wrong.

John 3:19: This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

It is no surprise, as we look at the world around us, that more people choose darkness than light, death than life. This is a reason we should be Shiners Not Whiners.

John 12:35,36,46: Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. 36 Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them ... 46 [later Jesus said,] "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness."

Those who don't believe in Jesus live in darkness. This should motivate us to warn them and share the Good News.

I'd love to have you share any insights you gain from studying these verses. Thanks, Gail
