Our modern nativity scenes may not accurately represent the actual birth of Christ, but they don't distort the message of Christ's birth.
However, some traditions and popular teachings do distort the gospel. That's why it's so important that we make Bible study an important priority in our lives.
Christmas is a great time of year to renew our commitment to diligently study God's Word and become "wise men" seeking God's truth.
1. According to the following passage, what are the benefits of diligently studying God's Word?
2 Timothy 2:15: "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth."
Notice His first command after we come to Him. How does that command make our burden lighter?
Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
3. We are fallen human beings who need renewal, and God's Word renews our minds and redefines our values.
Note this wonderful benefit of renewing our minds:
Romans 12:2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."
