Before doing this study, please read the 1-minute introduction 6 Attitudes of the World. It talks about the sins that Christians reject because we want to be salt and light in our world.
1. Salt and Light
When you read the passage below, do you understand both the privilege and responsibility it contains?
Matthew 5:13-16: "You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
14 You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."
Philippians 3:12-17: "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. 15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained. 17 Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do."
2. Pressing On
Consider the passion and dedication of the Apostle Paul.
Do you feel a passion in your walk with the Lord? How might you develop a deeper passion for being all that God designed you to be?
