Bullets And Bibles

Bibles save soldiers' lives, Bibles save, WWII metal-covered Bibles
My father's WWII metal-covered Bible
Baghdad, 2007: PFC Brendan Schweigart was hit by a sniper. The bullet went into his side and out his chest, where it was stopped by a pocket Bible he kept in his bullet-proof vest.

If the Bible had not been there, it’s likely that the bullet would have ricocheted off the armor and back into his body, possibly killing him.

This is not the first time a pocket Bible has been credited for saving the life of a soldier. I have my father’s pocket Bible for WWII, and it actually has a metal cover for that specific purpose.

But I have a story about a Bible saving my life too: I was a disillusioned, nominal Christian, who saw no purpose in life beyond my own happiness.

Then, I began reading the Bible…and it led me to the Lord, who saved me from eternal death. My story is every bit as incredible as PFC Schweigart’s.

Bible Study

1. God's Word truly saves. It is all we need to fully and completely understand the Gospel. List the uses and purposes of God's Word found in  2 Timothy 3:14-17

"...the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

2. What sets the Word of God apart from every other book.

2 Timothy 3:16a:
"All Scripture is God-breathed..."

Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

Matthew 4:4
"Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Today I am re-posting the very first Bite Size Bible study published in March 2013. Bite Size Subscribers recently went over the 1000 mark, and when this first study was published, there were less than 100 subscribers. I hope those 100 will enjoy it a second time and the rest of you will enjoy it for the first time. God bless you! Gail
