"Dumb" Things Christians Believe

In 2010, the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth, Newsweek published a list called "Dumb Things Americans Believe" and creation was on that list.

A Gallup poll that year had shown that 25% of Americans still don't believe in evolution.

There are many reasons (scientific and theological) to reject evolution, but the most compelling reason for Christians is this:

The Bible says God created the world "very good" and death, decay, and pain came AFTER the fall of man because of man's sin. Evolutionists believe millions of years of death, decay and pain preceded the presence of man on earth.

Evolution's acceptance is not based on logic or science. It's based on man's inclination to trust the theories of man more than the teachings of God.

For "by faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible" (Hebrews 11:3).

We all have faith in something, some of us in God, and some of us in man. Now which sounds dumbest to you?

Christians will always be discredited for their beliefs. When Biblical views contradict popular scientific or social theories, non-Christians are quick to call us superstitious or naive even though there is ample scientific evidence for creation. And sometimes non-Christians will lie about our beliefs. Did you know that Christians never believed in a flat earth? (see Flat Earth).

How do the following passages confirm that God's wisdom will always be rejected by non-Christians? Does knowing this give you more confidence in creation? Are there people in your life who are the "scoffers" mentioned in 2 Peter 3? How do you deal with them?
1 Corinthians 1:20-21: 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

1 Corinthians 2:14-16: 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, "Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

2 Peter 3: 3-7: 3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
