Fixing our thoughts on positive things will bring God's peace to our souls (Philippians 4:8-9).
I don't know about you, but that's something I want!
So what are we to think about?
Whatever is:
♥ True- Things which are accurate and correct, no rumors or unproven accusations.
♥ Noble - Things of exalted moral excellence, not crude jokes or stories.
♥ Right - Things in accordance with what is good, proper, or just, not profanity or slander.
♥ Pure - Things uncontaminated and un-compromised by worldly values and philosophies.
♥ Lovely - Things that are spiritually pleasing, not evil.
♥ Admirable - Things worthy and inspiring, not discouraging.
♥ Excellent - Things outstanding and superior, the best of things.
♥ Praiseworthy - Things that deserve praise and inspire godly values.
Throughout your day, whenever you day dream or wake in the night, do a Philippians 4:8 check of your thoughts!
Bible Study
Since "the mouth speaks what the heart is full of" (Matthew 12:34), verses addressing speech are also pertinent to this study. Ephesians 4:29: Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Ephesians 5:3-4: But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:8: See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.
1 Timothy 6:20: Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge
Ephesians 5:6: Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.
Ephesians 5:18-20: be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
