12 Reasons Jesus Came Bible Study

12 Reasons Jesus Came, Jesus came to earth
This list is presented on Bible Love Notes: 12 Reasons Jesus Came.

Below you will find the same content with full text Scriptures and additional notes:

1. He came to fulfill the Law.

Matthew 5:17-18: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

2. He came to seek and save the lost.

Luke 19:10: For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

1 Timothy 1:15: Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.

3. He came to serve.

Mark 10:45: For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

4. He came to give His life in payment for our sins.

Matthew 20:28: Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many

1 John 3:5: But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin.

5. He came that we might have abundant life.

John 10:10: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

6. He came to reveal the Father.

Matthew 11:27: All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

John 14:9: Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

7. He came to separate believers from non-believers.

Matthew 10:34-36: “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— 36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.

8. He came to proclaim truth.

John 18:37: “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

9. He came to give us a pattern of holy living.

1 Peter 2:21: To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

10. He came to ignite a spiritual fire.

Luke 12:49: “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

Opinions of Bible scholars vary about the exact meaning of fire in this passage, but all agree it is a strong statement from the One Who truly set the world ablaze with His words and works here on earth.

11. He came to destroy the works of the devil.

1 John 3:8: The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

Hebrews 2:14-15: Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Scripture explains that while this has been done in the spiritual realm, we still will have to deal with Satan, sickness, and suffering while on earth. The full realization of the devil's defeat will be at Christ's Second Coming. See Hebrews 2:5-8 and the one-minute devotion Is Healing an Earthly Promise?

12. He did not come to judge, but He came to bring judgment.

John 3:17: For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 9:39: Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

John 12:47: “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

At first glance, this seems like a contradiction, but it's not. See Did Jesus Come to Judge for an explanation?
